Find the answers to a few of our most commonly asked questions below.

The lights are operated by two touch keypads located at the front and rear of the bus. Each number corresponds to a different area of the bus – press each number to turn that area off and on, or press the off/on switch to adjust all of the lights at once. The outdoor festoon lights are solar powered and will come on automatically once it is dark enough. If this does not happen automatically, you may need to press the button on the back of each solar panel (found at the end of the string of lights) to turn these on.

You will find a key tag above the kitchen sink with buttons to turn the generator on and off (you will need to press and hold the buttons) in order to recharge your supply. You shouldn’t need to use this, but it’s ready to go if you do. Once the batteries have gone flat we recommend running the generator for several hours to properly charge the supply.

If you turn the shower knob fully  clockwise and then tilt the knob at the bottom away from the wall this will start the flow of hot water. You may need to run the water for a minute or so for the water to come through the pipes.  Move the mixer from side to side to adjust the temperature. If you are still not finding hot water in the shower, turn on the tap at the kitchen sink. If you have hot water at the sink you will also have hot water in the shower, so try adjusting the mixer again and wait a few moments for the water to come through. If there is no hot water at the kitchen sink, give Tess a call on 0417461446 and we will talk you through how to resolve the problem.

The bus kitchen includes a 130L Bushman fridge, which also includes a small freezer section.

The stove burners and grill are all gas-powered and need to be ignited with a flame. To do this, light a match and then turn the knob of the burner that you would like to use to the on position. Hold this in to allow activation of the gas and simultaneously hold the match to the burner. This will ignite the burner flame.

To light the grill, follow the same steps but instead hold a match to the top of the burner from the underside, just behind the knob. If you have any troubles with these please feel free to get in touch and we can talk you through it.

All water at the bus is rainwater fed, treated with an industry standard UV filter and is perfectly safe (and delicious) to drink. If you’re not comfortable drinking rainwater we recommend bringing your own bottled water, or perhaps boiling the water before drinking it.

The hot tub is heated by a wood heater at the back of the hot tub. This takes several hours to heat to temperature and you will need to continue to fill the firebox with wood during this time – leave the door to the heater closed as much as possible to speed up this process. It’s also important that the fire is burning at a high temperature with a good bed of coals. If you have any difficulties with this please feel free to get in touch so that we can assist. We’re more than happy to help!

Power on the bus is supplied via a solar system, which isn’t suitable for operating devices with a heating element or those that require large amounts of power. If something like this is plugged in to the powerpoint it will cause the system to trip, which will require a manual start up process to get the 240v power running again. If this happens, please get in touch with us on 0417461446 and we can talk you through the process.

If you’re not familiar with lighting fires, we recommend watching a few YouTube videos first. Alternatively, the method that we like to use is placing four firelighters in a 15cm wide square on the floor of the fireplace. Then use small sticks to build a criss-crossed Jenga-like structure on top. Use a match to light the firelighters, then once the sticks are burning well add larger pieces of wood on top with the shorter side of each piece facing the front of the fireplace. For the greatest chance of success, ensure that the flue (located at the top right of the fireplace) is open by pulling this to the right. This is a good video if you need some extra help.

For fire safety reasons we don’t have an outdoor BBQ available, however for those interested in cooking with coals we recommend utilising the hot tub fireplace. Once a bed of coals has been established a grill pan or hamburger basket fit neatly in this fire and will cook a mean smoky BBQ dish! Please note, the outdoor fire is not able to be lit on days of total fire ban and we will get in touch to let you know if this is the case.

The cave is located down the small track past the front of the bus. This track is very steep so take your time and take care. Inside the cave you will find a rug and cushions waiting for you. Please put them back in the bag after use so that they stay dry in dewy evenings.

To open the hot tub itself, flip the sides up before lifting the lid. When you’ve lifted the lid bolt it securely into place on the left-hand side, making sure that the bolt is pushed right the way through and properly secured. The lid can then be further secured with the clip on the right hand side. Take care not to drop the lid cover as it may break. Before you jump in we recommend doing a temperature check and stirring the water with the boat oar – the water is usually hotter on top than on the bottom and may need a little more time to heat right through after it has been stirred.

You will find a hose up on the bank which will give you a supply of cold water. Please feel free to add a little to the hot tub as you give it a stir with the boat oar to bring the water back to a cooler temperature.
